About Jared Mac Werlein

Biography

In the 2026-2027 season, Jared makes his China debut at the Beijing Music Festival as Curio in Giulio Cesare before joining the Grand Théâtre de Genève as a member of their Jeune Troupe. While in Geneva, he makes several role debuts including both the title role and Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Prudenzio in Il Viaggio a Reims, and Larkens in La Fanciulla del West. In April, Jared makes his role debut as Marcello in La Boheme with the Northwest Florida Symphony before returning to Geneva to conclude his season as Maximilian and King Stanislaus in Candide.


In the previous season, Jared was as an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he appeared in a wide range of productions including Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Der König in Schreker’s Der Schatzgräber, Peter Quince in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Curio in Giulio Cesare. Other notable productions in previous seasons include Harasta (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Zuniga (Carmen) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as Ashby in La Fanciulla del West at the Korean National Opera.


Jared has trained with several of America's most prominent Young Artist Programs. In 2025, he appeared at the Aspen Music Festival, performing in Handel’s Messiah and presenting a variety of song repertoire in concert. In 2024, he joined the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, covering Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Achilla in Giulio Cesare. In 2023, he appeared at the Music Academy of the West as Benoit and Alcindoro in La Bohème. In addition, he has spent several summers at the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory (2018, 2019, 2022), where he performed roles such as Leporello (Don Giovanni), Peter Quince (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Bellomy (The Fantasticks).


A graduate of The Juilliard School, Jared holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in voice. His Juilliard performances included Gus O’Neill in John Musto’s Later That Same Evening, Mercurio in Handel’s Atalanta, and Nanni in Haydn’s L’Infedeltà Delusa, as well as covering the role of Sodbuster in Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up.


Jared is the recipient of a 2026 Eastern Region Encouragement Award from the Laffont Competition and the 2025 Gregory Kunde Nova Award from the Zenith Opera Competition.
